Known as the “land of lakes and volcanoes” – its nickname gives away how blessed this country is with natural wonders. This destination may not be on the radar of many travelers as its last few decades were rocked by war and economic woes. History buffs can find the oldest colonial city in the (mainland) Americas here. While the violence of a decades long revolution has ceased, it is still very much fresh in the people’s consciousness.
