About The Thrill of Pursuit

Hi! I’m Dominique – a curious soul in constant pursuit of my next adventure.

I travel to learn what makes each destination unique but to also find the familiarities that connects us all as humans. I travel to be exhilarated and because I genuinely find travel fun. My hope is to grow from my travel experiences and be able to share my lessons learned with everyone and anyone with the same thirst for knowledge.

The Thrill of Pursuit was created with the goal of fostering a global community to share in that excitement you feel right before you embark on a new adventure. By sharing my travelogue, I also hope to alleviate some of the anxieties that come naturally when venturing into an unfamiliar place.

I want to inspire others to go see the world while also giving the confidence to make it happen.

About Me

I’m a Business Analyst based in Toronto. I have worked for (almost) all the big 5 Canadian financial institutions …but I have never wanted to be defined by my profession.

Travel is my biggest passion. I love seeing the far corners of our world and experiencing new cultures. Nothing brings me more joy than sharing what I have learned from my travels with those who ask and swapping travel stories.

I often fantasize about pursuing travel full-time. BUT… I am way too pragmatic to sell everything I own and upend my life. Realistically, there are many things I would miss about the roots I have planted in my beloved Toronto.

The Thrill of Pursuit is designed to help those with who have limited, annual vacation days to make the most of their out-of-office. Through my curated travel tips and photo journals, I hope to make travel more accessible, responsible, and most importantly, enjoyable.

The Thrill of Pursuit Travel Style

I would describe myself as a (mostly) solo, female, adventure and mid-range traveler.

As I get older, I find it harder to find travel companions and go on solo adventures often. As a woman, I feel that there are particular precautions and considerations that I have to take while on the road. This is especially true when I’m traveling solo. You may find that my travel guides are peppered with tips specific to female travellers.

The Thrill of Pursuit is curious and adventurous. I try to immerse myself in the local culture by observing what the locals do, say, and consume. While I am open to navigating to remote, off the mainstream tourist route destinations, I also like to rest my head where there is running water and Wi-Fi, where available. This is why I would describe my travel style as mid-range – not opposed to roughing it for the sake of adventure, but also not opposed to splurging on luxury experiences either. I like a good deal but I also am willing to spend a little bit more for peace of mind and comfort. If you can relate to any of this, then you may find my tips and guides helpful.

The Thrill of Pursuit Travel Philosophy

When planning a trip, I am often drawn to lesser known corners of the world. My penchant for going off the mainstream tourist route have led me to life changing experiences and to see some unbelievable landscapes. This same penchant also opened my eyes to the downside of tourism and some of its ramifications to local economies.

Travel is a luxury and privilege. Privileges come with responsibilities. I believe that visitors have the responsibility to explore as respectfully, ethically, and sustainably as possible.

On the road, I try to support the local economy as much as possible. I try to achieve this by doing things like:

  • staying at locally-owned, boutique accommodations,
  • avoiding entertainment/experiences that are exploitive to animals, nature or the local community,
  • choosing locally-owned, tour companies that employ and pay locals a fair wage,
  • and supporting local entrepreneurs in general.

In addition, I am also a history nerd. I especially love learning about the different cradles of civilisation while traveling. Often times, I do get information fatigue while I am on location. So I will often provide historical context on the blog in order to help others:

  • prepare and get excited for their upcoming trip,
  • get more historical and political context on some of the most important sites around the world,
  • better understand and get an appreciation for things they’ve seen on the road,
  • …and because I find it interesting.

If you’ve made this far, I would like to thank you for sharing in the journey.

xoxo Dominique
