NICARAGUA

Known as the “land of lakes and volcanoes” – its nickname gives away how blessed this country is with natural wonders. This destination may not be on the radar of many travelers as its last few decades were rocked by war and economic woes. Those adventurous enough to come here would be treated to much unspoiled natural beauty and charming colonial towns.

Besides being home to Central America’s largest lake and 19 volcanoes, it boasts coastlines along the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans. Surfers flock here for some of the best surf in the world. Eco-tourists can marvel at this country’s natural treasures as it is home to 7% of our planet’s biodiversity. The most untouched rainforest in the continent can be found here.

History buffs can find the oldest colonial city in the (mainland) Americas here. While the violence of a decades long revolution has ceased, it is still very much fresh in the people’s consciousness. There is a museum dedicated to the revolution in a charming university town. Here, comrades of the fallen give first hand accounts of the war.

Money stretches far here with plenty of proud locals who would be happy help show off the wonders of their nation.
