The Monte Tre Calli hike is 11 km/7 mi (round trip) long at 1,122 m/3,681 ft above sea level. The trail takes you from the hamlet of Bomerano to the village of Paipo. The entrance to the trail is located in Paipo via some stone steps. From there, the first part of the hike goes uphill until you gain 355 m/ 1,165 ft in elevation. After that, the trail flattens out. From that elevation, you will see over the Path of the Gods itself. In addition, you will get breathtaking views over the whole of the Sorrento Peninsula, Capri, Positano, and the Bay of Naples.

What is Monte Tre Calli?
Rising above the Amalfi Coast, Monte Tre Calli is part of the Lattari mountain range. It rises to an elevation of 1,122 m/ 3,681 ft and sits directly within the borders of the protected Parco Regionale dei Monti Lattari. The Monte Tre Calli circuit actually runs above the Path of the Gods. While the Path of the Gods hugs a lower cliffside, the Monte Tre Calli trail climbs up the ridge line. Unlike the Path of the Gods, the peak of Monte Tre Calli offers unobstructed, 360° panoramic views of the entire Amalfi Coast. From the top, you will see from the Gulf of Salerno, all the way to the Bay of Naples.

What to wear/bring
To hike Monte Tre Calli comfortably, it is crucial to wear the right clothing and bring the proper supplies. Below are my suggestions:
- Trail shoes or sturdy sneakers with a good grip. There are a lot of loose rocks on the trail, so footwear with good ankle support would be advisable.
- Lightweight pants or shorts with a breathable shirt would be comfortable for the trail; bring a lightweight jacket as the weather turns pretty quickly at this altitude.
- Lightweight backpack.
- Adequate sun protection. The trail is very exposed to the sun so make sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
- Water. Bring at least 1.5 L per person.
- Toilet paper and sanitizer. Just in case.
- Lunch/snacks or money for lunch.

How to get to Monte Tre Calli
To get to the trailhead of Monte Tre Calli, you must get to the hamlet of Bomerano.
By foot
I stayed in Agriturismo Sant’Alfonso and was able to cross the street and followed some trails that eventually took me to Bomerano. The agriturismo is located in the town of Furore.
I am assuming you can walk to Monte Tre Calli from Praiano, since you can walk to the Path of the Gods from there. You will need to back track into Bomerano’s town square once you make it up the stairs, since the stairs leads you to the Path of the Gods.

By bus
Regardless of your starting point, you need to get to Amalfi town. From Amalfi, you need to take the SITA bus to Amalfi-Agerola. You will need to get off in Bomerano. This bus ride will take about two hours.
The Bomerano bus stop is located right in the main piazza (Piazza Capasso) of the hamlet. From the piazza, head to Via Tommasso Mannini (street) and you will see the white and red trail markers for Monte Tre Calli.
By shuttle
There is a shuttle service to Bomerano available from Amalfi. The service is provided by Travelmar. If you are taking a ferry over to Amalfi, you can buy a combo ticket for the Travelmar ferry + shuttle. It is also possible to buy the shuttle ticket directly from the driver. The shuttle departs not far from the port of Amalfi.
The shuttle ride to Bomerano takes about 40 minutes. Note that there are limited departure times throughout the day. Refer to the Travelmar shuttle timetable for more information.
By car
You can drive to Bomerano by following the signs for Gragnano-Lettere-Agerola/Amalfi on the SS366. There is parking available at Piazza Capasso. There is also paid parking available near Agerola’s stadium. Note: aim to arrive before 9 am as parking fills up quickly during peak season.
By private transfer/guided tour
If you want to hike Monte Tre Calli without all the time investment and stress of getting there, then I highly recommend going on a guided tour. A guided tour would enhance the experience if you were interested in understanding the flora and fauna of the trail, local legends without the hassle of navigating. You can approach a local tour operator once you are at the Amalfi Coast to explore your options. I couldn’t find any tour operators if you wanted to pre-book; I did find this tour which charges per group (sorry, solo travellers).
I personally went on G Adventures’ Local Living Italy – Amalfi Coast tour. This tour was AMAZING as it allowed me to live like a local and explore villages, ancient mountain trails, and local customs on the Amalfi Coast under the expert guidance of a local. I wouldn’t have been able to do half of what I experienced on the tour had I gone to the Amalfi Coast independently. The Monte Tre Calli hike was included on this tour.

Hiking the Monte Tre Calli circuit
The start of the hike will take you to Bomerano. There are cafes that are open early on Piazza Capasso where you can grab a light breakfast, snacks for the hike, or even a lunch to pack for the hike. This is also a great pit stop for bathrooms.
From the square, head to Via Tommasso Mannini (“via” = street) and you will see trail markers for Monte Tre Calli (trail 329). These markers will take you along Via Pendola. Follow the trail markers until you arrive at a steep set of stairs. The stairs will take you up to a road (Via Paipo). Turn left on Via Paipo and follow the road for about 500m. Here you should find the starting point for Monte Tre Calli trail/trail 329. The trail should then start your climb up the Tre Calli mountain via a forest.

There are plenty of panoramic points where you can stop during the hike. But at its peak, you will get unobstructed, 360° panoramic views of the entire Amalfi Coast. You will see the Sorrento Peninsula, Capri, Positano, and the Bay of Naples.

To get to the end of the trail, continue following the trail markers for Monte Trail Calli/329 or red path marker. This will lead you down a very rocky path until you reach a forest where the trail becomes flatter. This was the bit that required patience and attention (so as not to roll an ankle). The trail eventually leads you back to Via Paipo. Follow the road back to the steep stairs where you started the hike.

Where to eat on the Monte Tre Calli circuit
You can pack a lunch or stop by a deli in Bomerano to buy a lunch to take with you before your hike. You can grab a sandwich with the famed fior di latte of Agerola. There are plenty of places on the trail where you can stop to eat.

There are restaurants in Paipo (the town where the stone stairs are located) or back at Bomerano. These establishments have the closest toilets to the trail.
Additional tips for the Monte Tre Calli hike
- Monte Tre Calli is a bit of a steeper climb with some tough sections in comparison to Path of the Gods, but nothing too extreme.
- While on Via Paipo, look out for incoming cars and stay near the guard rails.
- Pay attention during the descent on the rocky bit of the trail; rolled ankles can be easily avoided.
- If it has recently rained, I recommend holding off on your hike.
Reminders before you go…
- Stay connected while on the road for less with an eSIM. An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card. Instead of buying a little plastic chip and swapping it into your phone, you just download an eSIM. It connects your phone to a local network in whatever country you’re visiting — no stores, no waiting, and no fiddling with tiny cards.
My favourite eSIM has been Airalo. Just make sure your phone is eSIM compatible. - Considering travel insurance for you trip? World Nomads offers coverage for more than 150 adventure activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage, trip cancellation and more.
